Michael Burden
Michael Burden is a Sydney-based countertenor, who is rapidly establishing himself as an experienced and versatile performer. His operatic roles include Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Summer/Secrecy in Purcell’s Fairy Queen, Une Scythe in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, Sorceress/Second Witch/The Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Hyacinthus in Mozart’s Apollo et Hyacinthus. Chorus credits include Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Iphigénie en Tauride and Purcell’s Fairy Queen and Dido and Aeneas.
In concert, Michael’s solo performance credits include Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus with Adelaide Baroque, Handel’s Dixit Dominus with Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, Didymus in Handel’s Theodora, Joad in Handel’s Athalia, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Magnificat, Felicity Wilcox’s Threading the Light, Handel’s Messiah, Alto and Soprano 2 solos in Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noël, and numerous Bach cantatas. He has extensive experience working with period ensembles throughout Australia including Bach Akademie Australia, Adelaide Baroque, and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra; and with conductors including Dr Erin Helyard, Paul Dyer, Stephen Mould, and Elizabeth Scott.
Michael holds a Master of Music Studies (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, supported by the Donald Lionel Edgerton Scholarship, and completed with the guidance of Dr David Greco.
