Samanta Lestavel
Samanta graduated in November 2017 with a Graduate Diploma in Music (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She studied German extensively in university, adding to her native proficiency in French, Italian and English.
Samanta has performed the following principal roles between 2016-2023: Frasquita (Bizet: Carmen), Countess Almaviva (Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro), Adele (J. Strauss, Die Fledermaus), Belinda (Purcell, Dido and Aeneas), Pamina (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), Blondchen (Mozart: Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Calisto (Cavalli: La Calisto), Zerlina (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Patience (Gilbert and Sullivan, Patience), Despina (Mozart: Cosi Fan Tutte), Lucy (Menotti: The Telephone), Mary Crawford (Jonathan Dove: Mansfield Park, Australian premiere), and Angelina (Gilbert and Sullivan, Trial by Jury).
Samanta is always drawn to opportunities which are unconventional and new. She has occasionally moonlighted as a tenor and a mezzo-soprano, featuring as Mario Cavaradossi (Puccini: Tosca) and Pylade (Gluck: Iphigenie en Tauride) with The Cooperative in 2021, and as Count Orlofsky (Strauss: Die Fledermaus) with The Cooperative. looks forward to adding the role of The Governess (Britten: The Turn of the Screw) to her repertoire in 2023.
