Thomas Strong

Thomas completed his Bachelor of Performing Arts (Opera) at The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, followed by a Masters of Music (Opera) at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He has been the recipient of several prestigious opera scholarships and awards, including The Royal York Trust Scholarship in England, The Clare Grant Bequest, The Opera Foundation for Young Australians' Lady Fairfax New York Opera Scholarship, The Dame Joan Sutherland AOAC Award, and The Johnson Bequest.

Thomas's performance credits are extensive, having portrayed Cascada in "The Merry Widow," Le Chat in "L’enfant et les sortilèges," Doctor Falke in "Die Fledermaus," Marquis d’Obigny in "La Traviata," Mack the Knife in "The Threepenny Opera," Don Curzio in "Le Nozze di Figaro," John Styx in "Orphée aux Enfers," Le Chef de caravane in "La Rencontre Imprévue," Enjolras in "Les Misérables," and The Witch in "Hänsel und Gretel."

In 2021, Thomas was honored to become a principal young artist with Opera Australia. He has performed in "Great Opera Hits" at the Sydney Opera House and had the opportunity to cover significant roles such as Cavaradossi in "Tosca," Radamès in "Aida," Calaf in "Turandot," and the title role in "Lohengrin," for which he was the cover for Jonas Kaufmann.

His ongoing engagements with Opera Australia include performances as Pinkerton in "Madama Butterfly," Walther von der Vogelweide in "Tannhäuser," and Un Messaggero in both "Aida" and "Il Trovatore." In 2023, he is scheduled to perform in "Great Opera Hits" at the Sydney Opera House, continue his roles in "Tannhäuser" and "Aida," take on the role of Pinkerton in "Madama Butterfly" at the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, and cover the role of Radamès in "Aida."
